Product description

‘It comes from Tuscany, specifically from Fonterutoli between Castellina and San Leonino. This beautiful region between Florence and Siena is the heart of the Chianti region.

The vineyards where the grapes for the Concerto grow are located in nearby Castellina. Here the days are often hot and the nights cool, which gives the fully ripened grapes a special finesse. The Concerto consists of 80% Sangiovese, supplemented by 20% Cabernet Sauvignon - a grape variety that is also found in the famous Tignanello. International wine critics agree that Concerto is not only its closest rival, but is often even better and costs considerably less. The grape varieties are matured separately for 18 months in new barriques and then aged for a further four months in concrete tanks.

The alcohol content is 14%. The wine is already ready to drink, but should be decanted into a carafe beforehand. However, the wine can also be decanted ‘easily’: Simply pour into a glass and leave the rest of the bottle slightly closed (with the cork only slightly open) for a while - the residual air in the bottle aerates and opens the wine. This wine can be stored in the cellar until at least 2034 without hesitation and will then become even more elegant and supple.’

Tasting Notes

‘Colour: Deep dark red with violet reflections.
Aroma: Black cherry, cassis, vanilla (wood), fresh earth, undergrowth, black pepper.
Flavour: Round, powerful, already harmonious wine. Full fruit bomb (cherry, cassis, mulberry, wild strawberry), then vanilla, pepper , liquorice, dark chocolate, coffee, leather, terroir, mineral finish on present but never unpleasant tannins.

The Concerto goes very well with roast beef and wild boar, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, rack of lamb, powerful vegetarian dishes (such as baked aubergine) and savoury cheeses (mature Taleggio is perfect).’
